The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason (1926) is one of the most loved books about money. Its lessons are told as stories from ancient Babylon, and they still work today. But what if your income is not a steady wage? Here are five Richest Man in Babylon lessons, adapted for traders, freelancers, farmers and anyone paid in bursts.

1. Start thy purse to fattening

The book's first rule: "A part of all you earn is yours to keep." Clason suggests keeping at least one coin in every ten.

With irregular income, use a percentage, not a fixed amount. On a good day, one tenth is a bigger number. On a slow day, it is smaller, but you still keep it. The habit matters more than the size.

How Kede helps: set a savings goal and add to it whenever money comes in. Kede shows how close you are and the weekly amount that keeps you on track.

2. Control thy expenditures

Arkad, the rich man of the story, teaches that what we call necessary expenses grow to match our income unless we watch them.

You cannot control what you do not see. Record your spending for a week and group it by category. Most people find one or two categories much bigger than they expected.

How Kede helps: the daily tracker shows money in, money out and what stayed with you, and your weekly summary points out where the money went.

3. Make thy gold multiply

Money kept should be put to work, whether stock that sells, tools that earn or savings that grow. For a small business, the best investment is often more of what already sells well.

Before you invest, know which products or services really make money. Recording sales by item makes this clear.

4. Guard thy treasures from loss

Clason warns against risky schemes that promise quick returns. Guarding also means protecting against surprises: a sick child, a broken phone, a slow month.

An emergency fund is a guard. Build it first, before bigger goals, even if it grows slowly.

5. Make of thy dwelling a profitable investment, and insure a future income

Plan for the big costs you know are coming: rent, school fees, next season's inputs. When they are planned, they stop being emergencies.

How Kede helps: put each one in a Workplan, pay in installments and see what is left before the due date.

The lesson behind all the lessons

Every rule in the book depends on one thing: knowing your numbers. Arkad could keep a part of all he earned because he knew what he earned.
